Have you ever thought of climbing the highest mountains? Exploring the deepest oceans? Running a marathon? Or even parkour on high-rises? The truth is that each one of us, during some period in our lives, have thought of doing something extraordinary, something that we really wanted or needed to do, something that inspires people but didn’t pursue it due to one excuse or another. And all our excuses can be traced back to one fundamental reason: lack of motivation and inspiration.
This November will witness a change in trends as Dharamshala plays host to one of the most reputed conferences, known to many as the TEDx conference.
WHAT IS TED?
TED is an open platform for thinkers, doers and change makers and their ‘ideas worth spreading’. People from different cultures and philosophies gather to talk about their ideas and its benefits towards the global community. TEDxDharamshala, an extension of TED, is an independently organised event that strives to bring change on a global scale. Their slogan – Ideas Worth Spreading – aims at motivating people to ‘step forward and take action’ in their own lives and inspire others to do the same. Since the 90s, TED and TEDx have worked with personalities like Sir Ken Robinson, Larry Page, Bill Clinton and many others to uncover possibilities and pave the way for progress.
WHY DHARAMSHALA?
The dense deodar trees, the smooth breeze, the serene sunrise and sunsets, the snow clad Dhauladhar ranges, the indelible scenic views of nature and the rich heritage. All of this along with an atmosphere of intellectual and inspirational fervour, Dharamshala is enough to give you an experience of a lifetime. When it’s magnanimous weather blends with its diverse culture of people coming from the globe, then Dharamshala actually proves its real meaning “rest house”.
A Little about TEDxDharamshala
TEDxDharamshala, with its mission of ‘ideas worth spreading’, wants to deliver to the local community a holistic platform to involve and share their creative ideas and inspiring stories in order to provide a gateway for thinkers, doers and speakers of Himachal. Since its inception, TEDxDharamshala has given a voice to the hidden talents through its vivacious speakers and believers, which has enlightened the lives of thousands of people. Scheduled for the 12th of this November with the theme ‘Inspiring Possibilities’, the programme is designed to bring individuals under an umbrella of innovations and brainstorming sessions along with a common string of ideas connecting local areas to the global arena.
In a gumption to inspire and motivate the society, the TEDx Dharamshala team is making hard efforts by organising small outreach and activation programmes in colleges, schools and institutes where the audience is motivated to transcribe their feelings, thoughts flow freely.
Talking to the youth around the town regarding “ideas worth spreading” the TEDx team got an endearing response.
“I have seen many TED & TEDx talks on YouTube and was really inspired by the people motivating the youth. I am really excited that this time TEDx is going to be held in Dharamshala and really look forward to attending the event.”, said Shivam Sood, a resident of Dharamshala.
“Tedx is the voice of our generation and I am really excited that now Dharamshala is also a part of Tedx team”, said Mansi Mahajan, another young resident of the town.
